Metro police catch suspected remote jammers

On Tuesday, 8 July 2025, Metro Police officers received information about an incident of remote jamming in the Cape Town CBD.

While on patrol in Voortrekker Road, Kensington, they spotted the vehicle linked to the incident and instructed the driver to pull over.

The officers found tools in the vehicle used to break into cars, electronic devices and discovered that the licence plate was false.

Two suspects were arrested and detained at Parow SAPS.

Officers also booked in, as evidence, a laptop, cellphone, a set of number plates and a remote jamming device.

Remote jamming is unfortunately a common occurrence.

To mitigate the risk:

• Make it a habit to double-check that all your car doors and boot are locked before walking away
• Be vigilant of your surroundings, particularly of persons loitering in or near parking areas
• Never leave valuables in plain sight inside your car
• Try to park in areas that are busy, well-lit or near a security booth
