Multiple Injured In Two Collisions On Southbound Near Umhlanga Interchange

At least five people sustained minor to moderate injuries following two separate collisions on the southbound freeway, just after the Umhlanga Interchange, during the early hours of Sunday morning (20 July 2025).

Members of KZNVIP were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple reports from passing motorists regarding the incident.

The first collision is believed to have occurred when a vehicle travelling from Phoenix toward KwaMashu attempted to merge onto the southbound freeway. Due to poorly lit construction barriers at the on-ramp, the driver veered to avoid the obstacles and collided with a concrete barrier.

Thereafter a second vehicle, which braked suddenly to avoid the initial crash, collided with a truck. Occupants of the second vehicle also sustained injuries.

KZNVIP Paramedics arrived promptly on scene where they stabilised all injured individuals before transporting them to nearby medical facilities for further treatment.

All relevant emergency services were in attendance . Traffic in the area was heavily affected due to the incident.
