On Monday, 28 July 2025 at about 11:30 an Intelligence driven operation conducted by members attached to Operation Shanela II led to the arrest of a 35-year-old male for possession of drugs and the unlawful possession of prohibit firearms and ammunition.
The members acted on information received about firearms and ammunition being stored at a premises in Belhar. At the premises members found a CZ pistol, one Norinco Star firearm, one revolver, an assortment of ammunition, three sachets of cocaine, 422 mixed empty cartridges including three empty blue ammunition cases in his possession. The suspect was arrested and detained at Belhar SAPS.
In an unrelated matter, members received information about a firearm being kept at a shack in Freedom Farm Informal Settlement. The members immediately operationalised the information and arrested a 33-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect was also found in possession of a CZ 7.65mm pistol. Further investigation linked the firearm to a case reported at Kleinvlei SAPS on Friday,18 July 2025.
Both suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court once charged.
