Operation Shanela yields positive results in Amersfoort and Vosman

Operation Shanela in Amersfoort has yielded positive results as a 37-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday, 25 July 2025 at about 15:30.

Information that was obtained through intelligence then coordinated with Standerton K9 Unit has led to the arrest of the suspect who is suspected to be dealing in drugs in Amersfoort.

The suspect was observed by the astute members, and the operation was carried out successfully and the man was found in possession of suspected drugs, including 34 sachets of suspected nyaope, 13 tablets of suspected mandrax, and 16 suspected crystal meth with an estimated street value of about R4600.00.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 July 2025 facing charges of possession of drugs.

Meanwhile, in Vosman, during Operation Shanela, on the same date, 25 July 2025, two suspects were also arrested after being found with suspected drugs. The two are facing charges of possession of drugs.

The operation was driven by Middelburg K9 Unit, Anti-hijacking and tracking team, as well as members from the Middelburg Highway patrol Unit.

One of the men arrested, aged 33 was found with 02 suspected crystal meth and O5 suspected mandrax, at an estimated street value of about R2000.00 whilst the other man, 45-year-old, was found with 96 units of suspected drugs inside a green plastic, at an estimated street value of about R4800.00.

The duo is expected to appear at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Monday 28 July 2025, facing the said charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has lauded the positive results yielded by Operation Shanela. The General further praised the various teams for their relentless commitment in dealing decisively with the issue of drug trafficking, thereby ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book.
