The passenger of a vehicle involved in a side-impact collision has demised on the scene.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to a high-impact collision at the Phoenix Highway & R102 intersection in Phoenix – KZN at approximately 18:54. On arrival, Reaction Officers found Paramedics from a private ambulance service treating a man for serious injuries. He was a passenger entrapped in a red Audi RS4.
The Ethekwini Fire Department were called out, and the Jaws of Life were used to free the critically injured male from the wreckage. He went into Cardiac Arrest during the extraction. Resuscitation efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful.
The driver of the vehicle and two (2) occupants of a white Mercedes-Benz sustained moderate injuries. They were stabilised on scene before being expedited to hospital by ambulance.
It was alleged that the white Mercedes Benz was travelling in the direction of Phoenix from Ottawa – KZN when it collided into the side of the red Audi RS4 that was exiting Phoenix and proceeding into Cornubia.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
