As part of Operation Vala Umgodi’s ongoing efforts, the Sekhukhune District Vala Umgodi task team has intensified its crackdown on illegal activities, resulting in significant arrests.
On 5 July 2025, at approximately 15:30, the team responded to reports of illegal sand mining at Mogogwane River in Mamone Skwati Village within the Jane Furse policing area. Upon arrival, police discovered a truck and a TLB actively loading sand. Further investigation revealed that the drivers lacked the necessary permits to engage in mining activities. Both drivers, aged 31 and 37, were promptly arrested, and the truck along with the TLB were confiscated. They face charges of illegal sand mining.
Later that evening, at around 19:10, the team intercepted a truck along the R555 route near Steelpoort, turning into Tukakgomo. Upon questioning the occupants, it was established that three of the four individuals aged between 19 and 34 were illegal immigrants. They were arrested on the spot, demonstrating the police’s firm stance against illegal immigration and related criminal activities.
These operations underscore our unwavering commitment to protecting communities, conserving the environment, and upholding immigration laws. The Police will continue targeted patrols and enforcement actions to eradicate illegal mining and immigration, ensuring safety and legality for all residents.
