Police in Tubatse have launched a manhunt for two suspects following a carjacking, kidnapping and murder of a 38-year-old man at Praktiseer next to a local tuckshop, on Friday, 25 July 2025, at around 23:00.
Police report indicates that two males were sitting in a parked vehicle next to a tuckshop, when two unknown suspects wearing balaclavas and black clothes emerged and ordered the passenger to leave. Whilst still in the car, he heard gunshots sound and immediately alighted and fled on foot, leaving the driver with those suspects. He hid himself and after a short while, he checked and realised that his friend’s vehicle was not there. No person(s) was at the scene. He rushed to local police station and reported the incident.
On Saturday, 26 July 2025, Police received information from a passer-by that there was a person lying down in the bushes of Bothashoek. They visited the scene and, upon arrival, found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services personnel were also summoned, and he was certified dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld pending further investigations by Police.
The deceased’s vehicle, a sliver grey Toyota Rumion with registration FTZ964L, is not yet recovered.
Cases of murder, kidnapping and carjacking were opened, and police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist in the investigation or lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the Investigating Officer Captain Maphakela Mametja at 064 679 7356, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPSApp.
