Members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) responded quickly to important information on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, about the whereabouts of suspected suspects in a recent shooting incident that happened along Reuben Street in Westbury.
Following a lead from a reliable source, AGU operatives proceeded to Gregory Flats in Westbury, where they successfully arrested a wanted suspect linked to an attempted murder case reported earlier this month at Sophiatown SAPS. The 33-year-old suspect was also wanted for his involvement in the recent shooting incident along Reuben Street that resulted in a fatality.
Leaving no stone unturned, the dedicated AGU team continued their investigation into the shooting and initiated a follow-up operation aimed at recovering the firearm used in the crime.
Throughout the night, AGU’s relentless efforts led to the arrest of a second suspect, a 35-year-old male, found in possession of a Glock 43 firearm and nine (9) live rounds of ammunition, which had been reported stolen in a Brooklyn SAPS case in March this year.
Further investigation into the Reuben Street murder incident resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect, with AGU members also seizing the vehicle believed to have been used as a getaway after the shooting.
The three (3) suspects arrested for charges, including murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, are expected to appear before the respective court soon.
The AGU remains dedicated and committed to ensuring the safety of our communities by targeting violent crime and bringing perpetrators responsible to justice. We urge the public to continue providing the invaluable information that assists in our efforts to combat gang-related activities by contacting our SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111, or alternatively downloading the MySAPS App onto a smart device, and may opt to do so anonymously.
