The vigilance of Lusikisiki K9 Unit and Crime Prevention members whilst busy with escort duties in Port St John’s led to the arrest of a 27-year-old male suspect of Cwebeni locality – Port St Johns for possession of an unlicensed firearm (Shotgun with intact Serial number) with seven (07) shells/live ammunition on Wednesday, 30 July 2025 at about 08:00.
The male suspect has no licence to possess such a firearm and was arrested on the spot, detained in Port St John’s police station whilst awaiting his court appearance before Port St Johns Magistrate court on Thursday, 31 July 2025 on charges of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. Firearm circulation revealed that it belongs to a 74-year-old male of the same locality and was never reported as stolen.
The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended the members for their determination in fighting proliferation of unlicensed/illegal firearms in the district for safety of all.
