Mitchells Plain SAPS members demonstrated their commitment to community safety with a focused crime prevention operation, which led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On Wednesday, 30 July 2025 at about 08:45, the members performed crime combatting patrols in a hotspot area in Malva Street, Eastridge, Mitchells Plain when they observed how the suspect acted suspiciously by attempting to flee upon noticing the police presence. The members approached him and witnessed how he threw a black object over a fence. The suspect was apprehended and accompanied back to the residence, where he threw the object over the fence.
Upon arrival, the members searched the area and recovered a black 9 mm pistol on the yard. The suspect faces charges related to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges soon.
