Two suspects, Thato Motau and Terrence Mongadi, appeared before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court in Tubatse on Friday 11 July 2025 for possession of suspected hijacked motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Motau, who is charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle was remanded in police custody and his case was postponed to Monday 14 July 2025 for further investigation and possible bail application. Meanwhile Terrence Mongadi who is facing a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was granted bail of R1500.00.
On Saturday 05 July 2025, the members of Tubatse tracing team responded to intelligence information about suspicious motor vehicles at Extention 10 Burgersfort. On their arrival, of the police, suspects noticed them and ran away, leaving the vehicle a white polo Volkswagen with Limpopo province registration number behind. The vehicle was tested and it was confirmed to have been reported hijacked during June 2025 in Tubatse policing area.
On Thursday, 10 July 2025, at around 11:00, Motau was identified and arrested at Bugersfort Extention 10.
Mongadi was nabbed at a well-known tavern at Riba Cross for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The recovered motor vehicle and unlicensed firearm have been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
