Police members attached to Malmesbury SAPS arrested a suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition last night, 23 July 2025.
The members were busy with patrols in Valk Street, Saamstaan, Malmesbury, when they noticed a male walking in the street. When he saw the marked police vehicle he ran into a nearby premises. The members chased after the male apprehended and searched him. A 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition was found in his possession. The suspect was arrested and detained for the possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Shanela arrested a 29-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The members were conducting stop and search operations when they searched the suspect in Bonita Street, Kraaifontein. A 9mm pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized which was found in possession of the suspect.
Once charged the suspects will appear in the Malmesbury and Blue Downs Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges, respectively.
