A vehicle travelling south on the R102 caught alight during a test drive today (Thursday).
Passing motorists contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre and reported a vehicle on fire in Cornubia – KZN. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene with the Ethekwini Fire Department. Fire Fighters extinguished an engine fire on a white VW Golf 1.
The driver informed Reaction Officers that he is a Mechanic. He was test-driving the vehicle, which he was repairing when it caught alight. A faulty fuel pipe is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
