Last night, information was received about a cellphone snatching that took place on 13th Street, Menlo Park.
Information was followed up on, and a lookout for the suspects was established.
Using intelligence resources, the suspect vehicle was traced to a shopping centre in Centurion where the suspects were searching for their next victim.
A tactical takedown was executed, and three suspects were subsequently detained. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the vehicle was searched and three suspected stolen phones were recovered and the number plates on the vehicle were found to be cloned.
The victim of the Menlo Park robbery was traced, and with the information provided, a case was opened to link the robbery and suspects. The victim’s stolen phone was successfully identified as one of the recovered phones and was given back after being processed at the police station.
This outcome highlights the power of teamwork and the effectiveness of information-sharing between law enforcement, security partners, and the community.
