Chery Tiggo 8 CSH hybrid lands in South Africa with 1,200 km range and full-sized family practicality

Chery South Africa is expanding its popular Tiggo 8 lineup with the introduction of the new Tiggo 8 CSH Hybrid. Following the successful launches of the Tiggo Cross CSH Hybrid and Tiggo 7 CSH Plug-in Hybrid, this latest addition reinforces Chery’s commitment to electrification, offering South Africans more choice in powertrains that suit both lifestyle needs and budgets.

The Tiggo 8 CSH pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined output of 255kW and 525 Nm of torque. An 18.3 kWh battery enables an impressive all-electric range (AER) of up to 90 km, while the total combined range of 1,200 km ensures confident long-distance driving without the need for frequent stops to recharge or refuel.

The battery pack has been engineered for real-world extremes. In an intensive humidity test in Indonesia-where high heat, heavy rainfall, and challenging roads converge-the hybrid SUV proved its durability. The battery’s IP68-rated sealing withstood submersion in one metre of water for over 48 hours, while its wide operating range, from -35°C to 60°C, demonstrated its adaptability across varied climates. Backed by a high-strength steel underguard, advanced thermal management, and millisecond-response power cutoff in the event of a collision, the Tiggo 8 CSH sets a new benchmark for hybrid battery safety and reliability.

Power is delivered to the front wheels via Chery’s advanced Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), blending performance and efficiency. Drivers can toggle between Eco, Normal, and Sport modes, depending on their preferences or driving conditions.

With a combined fuel consumption figure of just 1.3L/100 km-or 5.2L/100 km when the state of charge drops below 30%-and CO₂ emissions of only 30 g/km, the Tiggo 8 CSH is exceptionally efficient. Its MacPherson front suspension and multi-link rear setup contribute to a composed, smooth ride, while ventilated front discs and solid rear brakes provide confident stopping power.

The new hybrid derivative retains the stylish design of the ICE-powered Tiggo 8 but adds a few distinctive touches of its own. These include a model-specific diamond-pattern grille, a sportier front bumper, and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. Automatic LED headlights are also standard, enhancing the Tiggo 8’s upmarket appearance.

Offered exclusively in Apex trim, the Tiggo 8 CSH comes packed with all the features you’d expect from Chery’s flagship SUV. Inside, the spacious cabin seats seven in a 2+3+2 layout, blending comfort, practicality, and a premium feel.

Up front, both the driver and passenger are equipped with heated and ventilated seats featuring electric adjustment-six-way for the driver, including lumbar support, and four-way for the passenger. The front passenger also benefits from Chery’s Queen Seat, which includes a built-in massage function, perfect for longer drives. The cabin is trimmed in soft black synthetic leather, adding to the upmarket look and feel.

Other standout features include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and an electric tailgate, all of which enhance everyday convenience and overall comfort.

Speaking of convenience, the Tiggo 8 CSH is packed with features designed to make life easier for you and your family. With the third row folded flat, it offers up to 494 litres of luggage space. Fold down the 60/40-split second-row seats as well, and that expands to a van-like 1,930 litres – ideal for larger loads. With all seven seats in place, the Tiggo 8 still boasts 117 litres of boot space.

Beyond its generous boot, it’s equipped with thoughtful touches that enhance everyday practicality: standard roof rails, second-row air vents, dual cupholders in the first and second rows, and multiple USB ports: one in front, two in the second row, plus Type-C fast charging for both rows. A 12-volt power outlet is also fitted in the front row.

A 15.6-inch LCD touchscreen puts most vehicle controls within easy reach of the driver and front passenger, including Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Audio is handled by a premium 12-speaker Sony sound system, delivering crisp, immersive sound. The Intelligent Voice Command system, activated by saying “Hello Chery,” allows the driver to control various functions without taking their hands off the wheel.

The Tiggo 8 CSH offers a comprehensive range of safety and driver assistance features, giving added convenience whether you’re navigating city streets or heading out on the open road. There are ten airbags in total, including front, side, curtain, a centre airbag, and a driver’s knee airbag. Second-row curtain airbags are also included, offering extended protection for passengers. A wide range of assistance systems work quietly in the background, including hill-start assist, electronic stability control, traction control, and brake assist. There’s also a driver monitoring system to help detect fatigue or distraction behind the wheel.

Parking and low-speed maneuvers are made simple thanks to a 540-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera. A head-up display keep key information directly in the driver’s line of sight.
