A 66-year-old woman and her 65-year-old partner were assaulted and dragged across the floor of their home by four (4) men searching for a scammer relative.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to Oakford Priory in Oakford – KwaZulu-Natal at approximately 19:47 after receiving reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers met with the complainants.
They explained that a white BMW 3 series (registration unknown) with four (4) male occupants armed with firearms approached them. The men informed the family that they were searching for a man related to them. The sister of the man in question informed the males that she was unaware of his whereabouts and did not have contact with him.
The gunmen then alleged that a man living on the property had sold a house to them. They realised they were scammed when they attempted to take possession of the house and discovered another buyer had purchased the property. R100,000 was allegedly paid to their relative and the men threatened to kill the family if the money was not refunded.
The suspects placed three (3) live rounds of ammunition on the table (picture 2). They instructed the sister to show it to her sibling and inform him of what was to come. They thereafter fired two (2) shots while fleeing the residence. Spent 9mm cartridges were recovered (picture 3).
No injuries were reported.
