DURBAN – In the early hours of Sunday morning, 17 August 2025 police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a 42-year-old suspect in KwaNongoma for being in possession of four (4) unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police officers from Zululand District Task Team and the Crime Intelligence had received credible information of an individual at Gwabe area in KwaNongoma who was in possession of unlicensed firearms.
Once the information was verified, an operation was then executed and the police pounced on the suspect at his home in the early hours of Sunday morning. The suspect was found inside the house and when the members conducted a search, they found a 303 rifle with a scope attached, an AK47 assault rifle, an Uzzi as well as 9mm pistol. The firearms were found under the mattress of the bed he was sleeping on. The suspect could not produce a license for any of the firearms found in his house.
He was then charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He will appear at Nongoma Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 August 2025. The recovered firearms will be taken for ballistics tests to ascertain if they had not been used in any commission of crime.
