The Tactical Response Team in OR Tambo with their Reece team followed up on information of a company vehicle (Toyota bakkie) that was hijacked in Qumbu CBD on 18 July 2025 and arrested two male suspects aged 30 and 37 in Libode and Ngcobo on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, recovering the hijacked vehicle.
The 37-year-old male suspect of Libode was arrested for possession of a cellphone that was robbed during the hijacking and he led police to Ngcobo where the bakkie was allegedly sold. The vehicle was found in Cobosi locality – Ngcobo and the team also arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for possession of suspected stolen property (Vehicle). The vehicle had all the company stickers removed and was fixed with false registration plates of Gauteng Province.
Both suspects will appear in different Magistrates’ Courts for carjacking, possession of stolen property (Cellphone) and possession of suspected stolen vehicle respectively.
The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded the Tactical Team for their dedication in getting to the bottom of the committed crime and arresting all those involved.
