The fight to reduce illegal firearms and ammunition in the province is ongoing, and members of Maitland Flying Squad showed their worth when they removed an illegal firearm and ammunition from the streets.
The members were doing visible policing patrols in the Guguletu area on Saturday, 02 August 2025, when they saw a suspicious looking male who threw a bag into a yard and started running. The members acted swiftly and caught up with the male.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested when the members found a 9 mm pistol with six rounds in the bag. The suspect was detained at Guguletu SAPS on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He will appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday, 04 August 2025, on the mentioned charges.
