As part of Operation Shanela II, members of Operation Basadi took to the N1 for a high-visibility roadblock ON 14 August 2025 outside Springfontein, led by Brigadier Street Sereetsi, District Commissioner of Xhariep, and Colonel Nyuliwe. The roadblock, conducted 10km outside Springfontein, brought together Gariep District police stations and various provincial components, including POCC, POP, Mounted Services, HRM, Finance, Proactive Policing, VCIU, and Communication.
The objective of the operation was to ensure the safety of road users while stamping the authority of the state by limiting the operational space for criminals. Women in blue conducted thorough inspections to ensure vehicles were roadworthy, and to detect criminal activities such as the presence of undocumented persons, illegal firearms, suspected stolen property, and drugs-thereby ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans.
Pamphlets on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), extortion, and related crimes were distributed to motorists as part of the awareness drive. The operation yielded notable results, including the issuing of various fines, the arrest of two suspects for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and the arrest of one individual for being an illegal immigrant.
