A clamp down operation to curb the influx of firearms and drugs into vulnerable communities yielded positive results with the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm and drugs.
On Thursday, 21 August 2025 at about 23:45, Beaufort West police in conjunction with Western Cape Provincial Traffic, Central Karoo K9 and Crime Intelligence as well as other law enforcement agencies conducted a roadblock along the R61 along the Aberdeen Road at Beaufort West when they pulled over a white Citroën. While searching the vehicle and occupants, the police members found a revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition in possession of the suspect who was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and was therefore arrested for the unlawful possession of the items.
In an unrelated matter, on the same day, 21 August 2025, Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit members followed up on intelligence when they pounced on a woman at a hiking spot along the R62 near Calitzdorp. They proceeded with a search and found 201 mandrax tablets in her possession. Police confiscated the drugs estimated at R12 000-00 and arrested the 23-year-old woman on a charge of dealing in drugs. She is expected to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court on Monday, 25 August 2025.
Furthermore, George police members confiscated 1071 litres of counterfeit liquor during two operations conducted on Thursday, 21 August 2025 at two licenced liquor premises. The team armed with a warrant responded to information from the public and raided the premises. The liquor is estimated at R200 000. Two men aged 32 and 38 were arrested.
The suspects will appear in court once charged.
