The vigilance of members attached to the Public Order Police (POPS) led to the successful confiscation of a firearm and ammunition in the Khayelitsha area.
The members arrested three males aged 33, 34 and 37 on Saturday, 02 August 2025 at 05:00 at Ntutyana Street, Ilitha Park, Khayelitsha for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, drugs and presumable stolen cellular telephones.
While patrolling at Ntutyana Street, the members spotted a Toyota Auris parked in the middle of the street, with three male occupants. They immediately stopped and searched the vehicle and its occupants. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found a firearm, six rounds of ammunition, eight mandrax tablets, and seven presumed stolen cellular telephones inside the vehicle, which the occupants could not give account for. They were arrested and detained at Lingelethu West SAPS.
The suspects are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court on Monday, 04 August 2025, for the mentioned charges.
