The recent arrest by the District Stocktheft Task Team highlights the commendable work ethic by the team in eradicating stock theft in the OR Tambo District, ever since its inception at the beginning of this month (August). The arrest of a 38-year-old man for allegedly stealing seven (7) cattle Qumbu yesterday, 22 August 2025, was one of many arrests that were effected by the team in the District recently.
On Friday, 22 August 2025 around 13:00, a team swiftly acted on infornation about cattle suspected to be stolen. Members followed a man herding seven (7) cattle from grazing fields in Blackhill locality, until Bhelekence locality, where he was stopped and questioned
Preliminary investigation revealed that five (5) of the cattle were stolen in Mafusini locality, while the ownership on the other two is yet to be established, and they were taken to a municipality livestock pound in Qumbu.
A 38-year-old man was arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property. He is due to appear in the Qumbu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August 2025 on the said charges.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded the task team for the sterling work. This team is barely over three weeks in operation, it has managed to recover livestock worth millions of rands. With the support of local residents and farming community, police will win the fight against stocktheft in the district, added Major General Modishana.
