Suspect arrested while attempting to smuggle a vehicle into Zimbabwe

A well-coordinated anti-smuggling operation in Solomondale, Sebayeng policing area resulted in the recovery of a stolen motor vehicle, a white Toyota Prado VX, valued at R1.2 million, and the arrest of a 22-year-old male suspect attempting to smuggle the vehicle into Zimbabwe.

The operation was conducted on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, involving the Limpopo Tracking Team, Limpopo PIU, working alongside External law enforcement Tshimollo Security and Investigation Shadow Secure security.

Intelligence was received about a stolen Toyota Prado VX, which was stolen in Gauteng and was going to be smuggled into Zimbabwe. The operational team kept observation and collected information, and the vehicle was spotted driving on R71 towards Mankweng.

The team tried to stop the vehicle and the driver sped off towards Solomondale.

The team gave chase, and the Prado crashed near the Solomondale railway line, colliding with the local principal motor vehicle.

The car was intercepted in the bushes near R81. Investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Lyttelton policing area in Pretoria on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, at about 9:00 am.

The 22-year-old male suspect was arrested, and he will appear before the Mankweng magistrate court on Friday, 29 August 2025 facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and reckless and negligent driving.
