Durban Metro Police Service Tracing Unit, working jointly with SAPS and Crime Intelligence, successfully conducted an intelligence-driven operation following the kidnapping of a 5-year-old child from Umlazi Q Section.
The child was kidnapped, and the suspect demanded R60,000 from the family in exchange for the child’s release. The incident caused great distress to the family and the Umlazi community.
Intelligence led the integrated police team to the Umzimkhulu area, where a suspect was located and arrested for kidnapping and extortion.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the child may have been harmed. Search and Rescue teams have been deployed to conduct a thorough search of the identified area.
The investigation remains ongoing, with further operations planned to trace additional suspects linked to kidnapping networks.
