Suspects arrested for the possession of drugs and ammunition

Efforts to combat gang violence and the distribution of drugs in the Western Cape yielded success when members of Operation Shanela II arrested suspects for the possession of drugs and ammunition.

The members were deployed in Philippi policing precinct and searched a premises in Vygie Street, Hanover Park on Tuesday, 12 August 2025 and arrested a 54-year-old man for dealing in drugs and possession of an imitation firearm. During the search the members confiscated six, one kilogram bags containing dagga, 84 sticks dagga, 231 dagga cigarettes, an undisclosed amount of cash and an imitation firearm.

The members searched another premises in Ivoorhout Street, Hanover Park where they seized 40, 52 gram of crystal meth. They arrested a 42-year-old man for the possession of crystal meth.

Operation Shanela II members deployed in Steenberg area, arrested a 20-year-old male when they found 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession during stop and search operations.

Once charged, the suspects are due to appear in the Athlone and Wynberg Magistrates’ Courts on the mentioned charges.
