At about 03:00, Clarens police, in collaboration with private security, arrested one of three suspects who were allegedly digging trenches to access electrical cables near the Clarens Golf Course.
It is alleged that private security officers on night patrol along the R711, noticed suspicious individuals digging near the golf course. They pursued the suspects and immediately summoned police backup. On-duty officers, supported by colleagues who were off duty, responded swiftly and launched a search. One suspect was found hiding in nearby bushes and was arrested, while two others managed to escape.
A case of malicious damage to essential infrastructure has been opened. The suspect is expected to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.
