Two suspects aged 21 and 27 are expected to appear before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 07 August 2025 after they were found in possession of suspected stolen property.
The duo were arrested in the early hours of this morning, 06 August 2025 by members of the Nelspruit Flying Squad while conducting patrols and vehicle checkpoints along the R38 Road. During their operation, members spotted a silver Ford Bantam with a white canopy and black-tinted windows approaching from the R38. The members signalled the vehicle to stop using their torches, but the driver failed to comply and sped off.
The members reacted swiftly and initiated a high-speed chase. They eventually managed to bring the vehicle to a stop.
Upon inspection, there were three occupants in the vehicle the driver and two males seated in the back wearing balaclavas and long black jackets. As the vehicle came to a halt, the suspects attempted to flee on foot. However, the alert officers managed to apprehend two of the suspects.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five (5) large rolls of electric cables, a bolt cutter, and a hacksaw. Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle was also seized for further investigation.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrests and expressed his gratitude to the commendable work done by the members for their vigilance and swift response.
