Two suspects due in court for the illegal possession of firearms

Continued interventions to curb gang violence and related crime in the Delft policing precinct yielded success when police members arrested a suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday, 11 August 2025.

The arrest was made during a crime prevention operation between Delft SAPS and the Drone Unit when the members noticed a suspicious looking vehicle in Erongo Street, N2 Gateway. The members stopped and searched the vehicle and found a firearm with 16 rounds of ammunition. A 25-year-old male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were conducting stop and search operations in the Steenberg area due to sporadic shooting incidents which were reported. The members noticed a male walking in the road in Saxo Street, who tried to evade them when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The members apprehended the male and found a firearm with ammunition in his possession. The 25-year-old suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are due to appear in the Bellville and Wynberg Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.
