CHLOORKOP – Police and other law enforcement agencies’ relentless efforts to fight against incidents of crime in Ekurhuleni District continue to bear fruits as 368 suspects were arrested for various offenses from Friday 22 August 2025 to Sunday 24 August 2025.
Among the suspects, 165 were arrested by the Detectives during their suspects tracing Operation Shanela conducted across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts on Saturday 23 August 2025, 100 were nabbed for contact crime, 16 for contact related crime, 27 for other serious crimes, and 12 for Gender Based Violence related issues.
Other suspects were arrested by SAPS and other law enforcement agencies during their weekly operations conducted across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts from Friday, 22 August 2025 to Sunday, 24 August 2025.
The successes were boosted during the main operation held in Germiston and Primrose areas under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni on Saturday, 23 August 2025, whereby 8 illegal liquor outlets were shut down, 4 suspects arrested for possession of drugs, 72 for contravention of the immigration Act, 54 for drunk and driving, 1 for dealing in drugs , 2 for exceeding speed limit and 1 for possession of dangerous weapon.
In parallel to the main operation in Germiston and Primrose areas, members of SAPS Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligence arrested 1 suspect for possession of stolen motor vehicle, 1 for possession of copper, 2 for possession of ammunition, 2 for dealing in drugs and 2 for possession of drugs. The arrests were made during their pre-operations conducted on Friday, 22 August 2025.
In Kwa-Thema on Saturday, 23 August 2025 at about 20:00, the Police were performing their normal routine patrol duties when they noticed a suspicious looking African male along Ndlela street Barcelona, and asked for permission to search him.
Upon the search, they found a 9mm Vektor Pistol on his waist, which had no serial number with magazine and 15 live ammunition. They further searched his pockets and found another 15 live ammunition. The suspect was arrested and taken to Kwa-Thema for detention
In Tsakane, on Friday, 22 August 2025, two boys were arrested during a school search in one of the secondary schools. An 18-year-old teenager was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon and another 17-year-old for dealing in dagga
An illegal mining operation was also conducted in Benoni Policing Precinct, whereby 5 undocumented persons were arrested. Members also seized illegal mining equipment such as pendukas, gas bottle, steel pots, stamper, spades, shovel, steel balls, a bag of gold bearing material, electric cord, grinder and crusher machine
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole commended the members for putting more efforts in the struggle and still encouraging communities not to lose hope, but to continue to work hand in hand with the police by providing accurate information.
