Who said fighting crime can’t be fun! Women in Mangaung Metro District JOINTS spent the day empowering each other, exchanging information, sharing knowledge and a laughter during #OperationBasadi #operationshanela2 roadblock assembled on N1 National Road, outside Bloemfontein.
Role players in Combating Immigration Public Transportation & Road Freight priority committees; the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Community Safety Roads and Transport, Road Traffic Infringement Authority, Department of Correctional Service & G4S, Department of Home Affairs and Emergency Service Personnel received an integrated briefing and tasking for the roadblock, as part of #WomensMonth Celebrations. The main objective of the operation was to combat and prevent the proliferation of illegal drugs, firearms, contraband goods, and human trafficking [dealing in persons].
During the operation, 28 persons aged between 21 and 42, were arrested for Contravention of different sections of Immigration Act. Thirteen fines were issued for transgressions against National Road Traffic Act. Six motor vehicles were also impounded. Crime awareness and sharing of safety tips was done, through the distribution of pamphlets.
