The 2025 Women with Drive event delivered a high-impact day of inspiration, connection, and empowerment, bringing together industry leaders, changemakers, and trailblazers to share their journeys, insights, and practical wisdom.
Hosted by MasterDrive with the support of headline partners Castrol and WesBank, the event celebrated women who have defied expectations, overcome challenges, and are shaping the future of traditionally male-dominated industries to achieve their own arrival.
Eugene Herbert, CEO of MasterDrive, says: “With the backing of our partners, this was a dynamic platform for women to connect, learn, and be empowered. The stories we heard prove that determination and authenticity can break through any barrier.”
Leadership through mentorship
Linda Cele, Product Head: Key Accounts and Partnerships at WesBank, delivered a powerful signature address, sharing her journey in banking and underlining that leadership is not about racing to the finish line but embracing the journey. She highlighted the vital role of mentorship and the importance of balancing personal and professional growth through patience and persistence.
Authenticity as a catalyst for success
Melanie van Straaten, Head of Castrol Southern Africa, shared how a lifelong dream to join Castrol, inspired by her father, became a reality through perseverance and authenticity. Her keynote reinforced the belief that “The only barrier that exists is the one you decide exists,” inspiring attendees to challenge their own perceived limitations.
Breaking more than one ceiling
A panel discussion on Breaking Glass Ceilings in Traditional Industries revealed that career progression is not defined by a single breakthrough – but by continuously overcoming new challenges. The conversation addressed imposter syndrome directly, encouraging women to support each other and build collaborative networks rather than compete.
Resilience and purpose
The inaugural Fireside Chat brought raw, moving testimonies:
- Marlize Havenga shared the harrowing experience of surviving a severe car accident, which drives her mission to protect every parent on her team.
- Tamsyn Gerrits, top five Miss South Africa and brand specialist, spoke about her cancer diagnosis before 30 and how sharing her journey on social media encouraged early detection in others.
Wellness tools for change
Closing speaker Niki Seberini led an interactive breathwork session, proving that lasting transformation begins with small, consistent actions. Participants left equipped with practical techniques to improve daily wellness.
Celebrating women who drive change
The event concluded with over R80 000 in prizes, a celebration of the vibrant community that gathered to learn, grow, and lead together. “We look forward to continuing this vital theme as we build towards our 10th event in 2026 – Women with Drive: JIVE!” Herbert concludes.
