This past weekend, from Friday, 12 September to Sunday, 14 September 2025, law enforcement officers intensified operations against drunk driving. Adopting a zero-tolerance approach, they arrested 43 motorists across Mopani, Vhembe and Waterberg districts.
•Mopani District: 15 arrests
•Vhembe District: 11 arrests
•Waterberg District: 17 arrests
The highest recorded alcohol reading was a staggering 1.28mg/1000ml in Lephalale, Waterberg District. Each arrest represents a potential tragedy averted, as drunk driving continues to claim lives, shatter families and put innocent road users at risk.
We commend our law enforcement officers for their tireless efforts in keeping our roads safe. However, policing alone can not win this fight. We urge motorists and communities to stand against drunk driving. Choosing to drive sober is not just a legal obligation. It is a moral duty to safeguard yourself and everyone who shares the road.
If you witness any traffic emergencies, please report them to our toll-free number 0800 006 694.
