GAUTENG – The Eldorado Park SAPS members, attached to Crime Prevention Unit alongside Gauteng Traffic Wardens arrested an alleged suspect on Monday, 01 September 2025 at approximately 19:00.
This occurred as the members were busy patrolling and demonstrating visibility along Golden Highway, Union Road as part of their Crime Prevention duties, when they noticed a white Beiben truck with a black loading container.
Following suspicion, the members immediately tried to stop the truck by using both the siren and the blue light, and they were successful.
Permission was asked by the police officers to search, which was granted.
When asked further what he was carrying, the truck driver said that it was old scrap metal. After that, the police officers decided to explore and examine the truck on their own. They discovered huge bundles of copper cables behind car rims and scrap metal. When asked to produce the certificate of second-hand goods, scrap metals dealer licence and or documentation that permits him to transport or be in possession of large big sacks of copper cables, he failed to produce any of the documents.
Role players such as Eskom, Telkom, and Sanral were contacted in order to verify the copper cables.
Indeed Eskom confirmed that the copper cables belongs to them.
Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) was also contacted.
The alleged suspect was taken into custody immediately and is currently being held at Eldorado Park SAPS for additional investigation. He is scheduled to appear in the Magistrate Court shortly.
In closing, Brigadier Maluleke expresses his immense gratitude for the outstanding work performed by his members and states that no amount of criticism will deter the Eldorado Park SAPS members from their tireless efforts to battle all types of crime.
