Crime prevention efforts elevated in the Northern Cape

As the Festive Season approaches, multi-disciplinary teams in the Northern Cape are elevating efforts to address the prevailing crime trends through the execution of #OperationShanela 2, ensuring a coordinated and targeted response to crime.

These multi-disciplinary actions conducted from 15 September 2025 until 21 September 2025 resulted in the arrest of 305 perpetrators.

All stakeholders adopted an integrated approach, combining intelligence led policing with visible patrols to curb crime across all five districts.

#Operation Shanela 2 initiatives included stop and search actions, vehicle check points, roadblocks and high visibility patrols. A total of 5 011 individuals and 2 825 vehicles were stopped and searched, including the searching of 93 premises.

Ongoing community engagements and awareness programmes focusing on women, children and vulnerable groups were held in conjunction with community policing structures and government departments to address prevalent crime trends, namely gender-based violence, youth and crime as well as alcohol and substance abuse.
