Continued interventions to fight gang violence in our communities saw the arrests of two suspects, when they were caught with unlicensed firearms on Friday night.
Members of Gugulethu Crime Prevention Unit followed up information about a suspect who is in possession of a firearm in the Europe informal settlement and a description was give. The suspect was apprehended and a 9mm pistol, without a serial number and ammunition was confiscated. The 25-year-old suspect face charges for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention, members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested an adult male, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Rosa Court, Heideveld. The members conducted an intelligence driven operation at the identified premises and seized the firearm.
The suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on Monday.
