On Thursday, 04 September 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Taxi Violence Combating Team (TVCT) Unit Officers, South African Police Service (SAPS) Officers and Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP), conducted a joint operation in the Duduza area.
This continuous operation on Operation Shanela, resulted in eight taxis being impounded at Sonnerskraal road. Taxis that were found operating without an operating permit, were taken to Gauteng Provincial pound in Benoni.
This operation is an ongoing law enforcement operation on taxi-related transport, it seeks to ensure compliance with the National Road Traffic Act and to address lawlessness in public transport in the City of Ekurhuleni.
