Essential infrastructure theft curbed in Odendaalsrus

Members attached to the Odendaalsrus Visible Policing Community Service Centre have arrested a 23-year-old male after he was found in possession of approximately 3.2 meters of copper cables, a self-made knife and pliers.

It is alleged that on Friday, 12 September 2025, members were performing crime combating duties when they came across a male in K5, Kutlwanong. Members requested to search the alleged suspect, and they discovered copper cables wrapped up with a bed sheet. The suspect was also carrying a backpack, and inside the backpack police found a self-made knife and pliers suspected to have been used during the alleged theft.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested. He is facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure, possession of copper cables, possession of dangerous weapons, and housebreaking implements. He is expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 September 2025.
