First Aid can literally make the difference between life and death. To ensure these lifesaving skills are available in the local KZN South Coast community, WildED Learning Hub has arranged with a first aid training provider (First Aid Priority) to offer courses from Green Point Lighthouse in Clansthal (4 minutes from Scottburgh).
This special offer, which will be running for a limited time, will make internationally benchmarked training more accessible to businesses, schools, community organisations, and households on the KZN South Coast. This will empower local businesses, schools, and households by ensuring these life-saving skills are available in Scottburgh at more affordable rates, mitigating any transport costs.
Holly Altenburger, Head of Education at WildED Learning Hub, said they initiated the project as a way to empower local communities with lifesaving knowledge: “These skills ensure people know exactly what to do in an emergency. By hosting courses in Scottburgh, we’re making accredited training more accessible while helping businesses meet their legal obligations. Businesses and schools can upskill employees, and parents can empower childminders, without having to outsource or travel to distant First Aid providers.”
First Aid Priority is a leading provider of First Aid as well as Health and Safety Courses, having trained staff in South Africa, Mozambique, and Swaziland. This experienced and hands-on organisation is now offering the same level of expertise locally through WildED Learning Hub.
Carol Smith, CEO of First Aid Priority, added: “First Aid is not just a compliance box to tick, it’s a lifesaving skill every workplace, school, and home should have. Our goal is to empower local communities with knowledge that could mean the difference between life and death.”
Who Needs First Aid Training?
South African labour law requires that workplaces with more than 10 employees must appoint a trained First Aider, with the following ratios:
- Shops and offices: 1 First Aider per 100 employees
- Other workplaces: 1 First Aider per 50 employees
Beyond workplaces, First Aid is a crucial skill for:
- Schools: Teachers, coaches, Grade 10 to 12 pupils for CVs
- Homes: Domestic workers, childminders, caregivers, and au pairs
- Community groups: Churches, NGOs, and local sports clubs
- Outdoor roles: Field workers, lifeguards, and tour guides
- Security officers, tow truck drivers, or any other first responders not in the medical field
