Foreign national suspect arrested for fraud in the Boksburg area

On Thursday 25 September 2025 at 11:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overload Unit Officers, arrested a fifty-five-year-old (55) foreign national suspect for fraud, in the Boksburg area.

While conducting law enforcement at the corner of R554 and Old Vereeniging Road, Officers stopped a silver Honda hatchback, displaying Eswatini number plate and licence disc, for a routine inspection. Upon closer examination the officer realised that the VIN number on the vehicle does not correspond with the one displayed on the licence disc. The suspect was then asked for the papers of the vehicle, where further investigation revealed discrepancies, suggesting that the vehicle had been fraudulently documented, and that it is originally registered under Botswana.

Furthermore, upon requesting for a driver’s license and passport, the suspect did produce them and, upon inspection, the EMPD members realized that the suspect produced counterfeit Swaziland driver’s license. The suspect was then taken to the nearest Immigration offices to verify the legitimacy of his passport and it was found to also be fraudulent.

The suspect was arrested and detained at Boksburg police station. Facing charges of fraud and contravening of the Immigration Act. The suspect is expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s court soon.
