Gunfire on Ridgeside Drive in Umhlanga

On the evening of Wednesday, 17 September 2025, KZN VIP Security & Medical teams, along with multiple emergency services and law enforcement agencies, responded swiftly to reports of gunfire on Ridgeside Drive in Umhlanga.

Upon arrival, it was confirmed that unknown suspects, reportedly travelling in a white vehicle (make and model unconfirmed), opened fire on occupants of another vehicle. The suspects fired several rounds before fleeing the scene, reportedly disturbed by a secondary incident nearby, where a vehicle was found ablaze at the Ridgeside traffic robots.

The targeted vehicle came under heavy fire, and both the driver and passenger managed to flee on foot into nearby bushes. They later reached a business complex where they sought assistance.

KZN VIP Medics treated one victim on scene for a moderate gunshot wound, before the individual was transported to a nearby medical facility for further care.

The roadway from Umhlanga Rocks Drive to the Ridgeside robots was temporarily closed to allow the South African Police Service (SAPS) to conduct investigations. Multiple high-caliber spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.

All relevant emergency services were in attendance.
