Limpopo Police apprehend over 800 suspects and recover 9 firearms during Operation Shanela II

The South African Police Service in Limpopo continues to intensify its fight against crime through high-density operations. Between 21 and 28 September 2025, a total of 872 suspects were arrested and nine firearms with 81 rounds of ammunition recovered during Operation Shanela II, conducted across all five districts of the Limpopo Province.

The arrests included:

▶️ Four murder

▶️ Five attempted murder

▶️ Four aggravated robberies

▶️ Three attempted rape

▶️ 17 rape

▶️ Six sexual assault

▶️ 73 assault GBH

▶️ 41 assault common

▶️ Three drug-related crimes

▶️ 70 driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

▶️ Eight illegal possession of firearms and 9 of ammunition

▶️ Eight burglary residential

▶️ Five burglary business

▶️ 28 malicious damage to property

▶️ Three robbery residence

▶️ 153 undocumented immigrants

▶️ 51 illegal dealing in liquor

Confiscations included:

▶️ Nine firearms and 81 rounds of ammunition

▶️ 14 dangerous weapons

▶️ 6.62kg dagga

▶️ 614.63 litres of liquor

▶️ 27 knives

▶️ One stolen/robbed vehicle

Police actions executed:

▶️ 1 169 liquor premises inspections

▶️ 144 second-hand goods inspections

▶️ 478 compliance inspections (firearms) at private security and firearm dealers

▶️ 3 364 stop and searches

▶️ 9 289 persons searched

▶️ 4 841 vehicles searched

▶️ 26 shebeens closed

Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the teams for their continued efforts, saying: “These arrests and recoveries are a clear indication that Operation Shanela is yielding results. We remain resolute in our commitment to rid communities of crime and ensure the safety of all people in Limpopo.
