The swift response by members of Milnerton Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of four suspects aged 27, 29, 47 and 53 respectively for extortion, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Milnerton area.
On Monday, 15 September 2025, the members received a complaint about someone being extorted for money in Platinum Street, Milnerton. On their arrival, they stopped and searched the vehicle and occupants resembling the description. They found a 9mm Norinco pistol with one 9mm round and one 9mm blank round in the vehicle.
On further investigation, it was discovered that the firearm belongs to a person of Quluqhu in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape, and it is not reported stolen. A case of negligent loss will be opened against the owner.
The suspects are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once charged.
In an unrelated incident, members attached to Public Order Police arrested a 27-year-old male for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs. The members were deployed in the Strand policing area and were doing stop and searches and visible policing when they noticed a suspicious looking male in Liberty Street, Strand.
They stopped and searched him and found him to be in possession of tik with an estimated street value of R130 000-00. The members also found an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. The suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court once charged.
