Motorist arrested for driving at a speed of 154km/h in a 60km/h zone, Springs

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Speed Unit Officers, arrested a male aged thirty-two (32) years old, for exceeding the speed limit of 60km/h in the Springs area.

After receiving numerous complaints from the members of the community about motorists driving at a high speed on Nigel and Allen Road, which has resulted in several fatal accidents, Officers set up high-speed monitoring equipment to check for compliance with the designated speed limit of 60km/h on that roadway.

A motorist driving a black BMW sedan was stopped, after the speed measuring equipment clocked the vehicle travelling at 154 km/h, the driver failed to give satisfactory reasons for being in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 and with the video footage as evidence shown to him, he was immediately handcuffed and placed under arrest for exceeding the speed limit.

The driver was detained at the Springs Police Station and is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) appeals to the motorist to practice caution and to adhere to speed limits on roadways, as speeding is one of the major contributing factor of road fatalities throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.
