For many motorists, the highways around the airport have raised serious safety concerns – not only for tourists, but also for thousands of residents who travel these routes daily.
As a municipality, we have taken this matter seriously. Over the past weeks, we’ve been working closely with Provincial Government, SAPS, ACSA, and SANRAL to strengthen safety along these key routes.
Later this month, we are proud to launch a new dedicated Metro Police unit that will patrol these highways, ensuring safer travel for all road users.
Tourism plays a vital role in our local economy: over 106 000 jobs rely on this sector. In fact, for every 10 tourists who visit our city, one permanent job is created. By protecting the tourism sector, and ensuring the safety of residents, we are also tackling the root causes of crime through greater employment opportunities.
Your safety matters – and we are acting to protect it.
