OR TAMBO DISTRICT – Police in the district continue to fight crime and bring perpetrators thereof to justice as they once more recovered unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen property in different parts of the district.
On Sunday, 07 September 2025 at about 19:00, the Mthatha based District Task Team acted on received information and recovered a high valued Industrial Ice Machine (quoted Serial Number) in Mqanduli which was allegedly stolen in Ngangelizwe with Ngangelizwe Cas number of February 2025, valued at about R114 000,00. The 34-year-old male suspect was arrested and had no proof/ satisfactory explanation of purchase. In a different incident, the Stock Theft Prevention Task Team arrested a 35-year-old male suspect of Mthatha Chris Hani Park in a Toyota Avanza on Monday, 08 September 2025 at about 00:30, next to Cicira junction – Mthatha during stop and search operation for possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norincho pistol (erased serial number) with ammunition.
In another unrelated incident, Mthatha Central Crime Prevention members followed up on information at Maqwathini locality, Tabase A/A, on Monday, 08 September 2025 at about 06:00 of a man with unlicensed firearms and recovered from the 41-year-old a .38 Revolver (erased serial number) with ammunition and a homemade Shotgun.
All arrested suspects will appear before their respective Magistrate Courts very soon.
