Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd, (Bakwena), in partnership with PinkDrive and the Limpopo Departments of Health and Education, joined forces for its annual campaign that raises cancer awareness and promotes screening to benefit communities in the area.
This initiative underscores Bakwena’s ongoing commitment to supporting a society where every woman and man live in safety, equality and dignity.
The campaign, now in its twelfth year, centred along the Bakwena N1 route, delivered comprehensive breast, cervical, prostate and testicular cancer education and screening services. It was conducted in two phases during the week of 25 – 29 August 2025, reaching local high schools and clinics. Participating clinics included Bela Bela Clinic, Warmbad Hospital, Kutlwanong, and Pienaarsrivier Clinics. Six secondary schools involved were Maope Secondary, Raeleng Secondary, Bela Bela Secondary, Hoerskool Warmbad, Zacharia Maukgatleng Secondary and Bathopele Secondary.
Through this year’s outreach, a total of 2 812 women and 2 840 men were reached, and 70 prostate-specific antigen tests were conducted. Seven individuals were referred for follow-up care, stressing the importance of early detection and timely intervention.
Bakwena’s partnership with PinkDrive NPC, founded in 2009 by Noelene Kotschan, reflects the shared vision of the two entities: to prevent avoidable cancer deaths through early detection especially for those without access to reasonable care for these conditions, and who reside in areas where health services do not reach.
Bakwena’s Corporate Social Investment policy is grounded in community development and lessons from past projects. It is concentrated on four pillars: road safety, health, environment and heritage, and socio-economic development. Through building relationships and partnerships with various government and relevant stakeholders, Bakwena makes a meaningful impact on communities along the N1N4 route.
Solomon Kganyago, Chief Operating Officer of Bakwena, expressed Bakwena’s dedication in supporting initiatives such as these which improve and empower the communities with vital information to assist with managing their health proactively.
This ongoing cancer awareness campaign exemplifies Bakwena’s commitment to enhancing the health and quality of life of the people in the Limpopo province.
