The determination by members of the South African Police Service to rid communities of illegal firearms in communities led to the arrest of a 55-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Members of Operation Shanela II deployed in Manenberg area conducted crime prevention operations when they heard they heard gunshots going off. The members drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots and saw a male running with a firearm in his hand in Manenberg Avenue. They chased after the suspect and apprehended him. While searching him the members found a firearm with ammunition in his pocket.
The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
