Suspects appear in court for possession of dagga, firearms and ammunition

Police members who are dedicated to serve and protect vulnerable communities proved themselves when they arrested suspects for the possession of dagga and the illegal possession of firearms on Thursday.

Members of Operation Shanela II searched a premises in Winchester Road, Blue Downs, where they found 120 dagga cigarettes, 140 small packets containing dagga, 98 dagga sweets and a undisclosed amount of cash in the house. A 43-year-old male was arrested for dealing in dagga and he will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ court today.

Meanwhile in Gugulethu, members of Operation Shanela II were conducting stop and search operations in Sombo Street, when they searched a male and found him in possession a revolver without a serial number. They arrested a 19-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm.

The same members arrested another 19-year-old male when they found him in possession of a revolver with the barrel of the firearm broken off. He faces a charges for the possession of a prohibited firearm.

Furthermore, the members searched a premises in NY61, where they arrested a 34-year-old male for the illegal possession of ammunition. The members found 21 7.65mm, five 9mm, one R5, and one shotgun round of ammunition in the house.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ ourt on the mentioned charges, respectively.
