Swellendam police confiscates two firearms and several rounds of ammunition

The efforts of police to eradicate the illegal possession of firearms continues to bear dividends with the confiscation of two unlicensed firearms and several rounds of ammunition at Swellendam.

On Monday, 22 September 2025 at about 17:15 Sellendam police members attended to a complaint at a residence in Voortrekker Street, Swellendam when they received information on possible firearms in possession of an occupant of the premises in the yard. The members immediately operationalised the information when they found two 9mm pistols, four imitation firearms, 378 rounds of various calibre of ammunition on site. The man found at the premises was unable to account for his possession thereof and the police confiscated the items. He was subsequently arrested on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The 35-year-old suspect remains in police custody and will appear in court once charged.

The provincial police management lauded the members for their commitment to rid communities of firearms which threatens the safety of vulnerable communities.
